Product detailed description
Khikhvi from the Qvevri Wine Cellar winery is an authentic Qvevri amber (orange) wine from Georgia, hailing from the Kakheti region. This wine is crafted from 100% Khikhvi, one of the region's traditional white grape varieties. The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented alongside their skins in traditional clay vessels called Qvevri for several months. This process imparts the wine's characteristic amber color and its complex flavor profile.
The aroma is dominated by notes of ripe stone fruit and floral bouquets. On the palate, the wine is dry, featuring a well-balanced acidity and gentle tannins, which create a complex and harmonious experience with a medium body and a long-lasting finish.
Founded in 2015 by third-generation winemaker Ivane Nareklishvili, Qvevri Wine Cellar specializes in indigenous grape varieties and traditional Georgian winemaking methods. Combining a modern winemaking approach and strict quality control with minimal intervention, Nareklishvili is uniquely skilled at maximizing the potential of natural fermentation. By producing their wines from organic grapes in Qvevri, Nareklishvili achieves a clean, healthy fermentation that beautifully completes their "orange wines." A tasting at Qvevri Wine Cellar reveals the exceptionally high-quality wines that can be crafted using native yeasts and ancient winemaking practices—resulting in wines with a distinct presence and structure, ripe fruit notes, and a mineral expression unique to Georgia.
