Product detailed description
Barbale Krakhuna Exceptional Harvest 2022 is an exceptional, dry amber (orange) wine crafted from 100% of the ancient, indigenous white grape variety Krakhuna, native to the renowned Sviri terroir within the Imereti region of western Georgia. The name of the variety translates to "crisp" in the local dialect, a reference to the firm texture the grapes retain even at full maturity. The hand-harvested fruit undergoes skin-contact fermentation in the Kvirila River valley, yielding a wine with 12.0% alcohol that feels energetic and slightly robust in its youth. It presents a light straw to deep amber-yellow color with an extraordinarily complex aromatic profile, where notes of banana, apricot, and ripe citrus are complemented by tropical hints, wild herbs, honeyed stone fruits, chestnut, and nougat. On the palate, it is full-bodied, round, and persistent, featuring smooth, well-integrated tannins, a pleasant waxy texture, and excellent aging potential.
This wine represents a perfect bridge between the historic roots of Imereti and modern natural winemaking from the family-run Barbale boutique winery. Based in the village of Bolnisi within the Kartli region, the estate has been led by talented enologist Berdia Berishvili since its founding in 2016. Barbale has rapidly emerged as one of the most promising names on the developing Georgian wine scene due to its dedication to exploring unique terroirs and honoring indigenous varieties. Their exceptional craftsmanship earned high praise at the prestigious Merano WineFestival 2023, where this Krakhuna expression was highly acclaimed for its precision, roundness, and captivating character. Due to strict artisanal production and a limited number of bottles, it offers a truly rare and authentic Georgian wine experience.
